Historical Background
California journalists Judith and Neil Morgan have written articles together for
National Geographic and other magazines. They began researching and writing
Dr. Seuss & Mr. Geisel in the early 1990s, having been close friends with Ted Geisel for over thirty years.
Scope and Content of Collection
Production materials for the book
Dr. Seuss & Mr. Geisel by Judith and Neil Morgan, a biography of Theodor Geisel. Materials include research files which contain newspaper clippings,
interviews, letters, and notes from Ted Geisel's personal and career life, audio cassette interviews with Audrey Geisel, friends,
and colleagues, typescript drafts of the manuscript, as well as the production proofs and edits. The collection also contains
a complete manuscript from Edward Connery Lathem's unpublished biography of Ted Geisel in 1992.
Arranged in two series: 1)
Dr. Seuss & Mr. Geisel and 2) ORIGINALS OF PRESERVATION PHOTOCOPIES.

Scope and Content of Series
The
DR. SEUSS & MR. GEISEL production materials are arranged in five subseries: A) Research/Subject Files, B) Lathem Manuscript, C) Interviews, D) Working
Files, and E) Production Files.
A) Research/Subject Files: materials the Morgans collected corresponding to the chapters in the book. This includes newspaper
clippings about Ted Geisel and his work, letters to and from fans, friends, and family, and notes ranging his early childhood
to after his death in 1991. The materials are arranged chronologically.
B) Lathem Manuscript: complete typewritten 1992 manuscript for Edward Connery Lathem's unpublished biography of Ted Geisel.
C) Interviews: audio cassette recordings of interviews Judith and Neil Morgan conducted with Audrey Geisel, Chuck Jones, Peggy
and Ted Owens, and other friends and family between 1991-1993.
D) Working Files: Materials related to the book, arranged by chapter. This includes typescript drafts, notes, correspondence,
and other reference material.
E) Production Files: typescript drafts, first and second edits, page proofs, and final laser proofs. The materials are arranged
following book production order.
