Biography/Administrative History
Anastasio Avila received the Mexican land grant, Rancho Tajuata, also known as Rancho de Los Cuervos, located in the present-day
Watts district of the city of Los Angeles.
Scope and Content of Collection
Documents, receipts and other items from the estate of Josefa Avila. Also postcards and two portraits. She was the daughter
of Jose Maria Avila [died ca. January, 1900] and Francisca Avila [died 1916.] The papers provide a snapshot of the Avila
family, including the real estate transactions to sell off portions of Rancho Tajauta. Spanish surname spelling variant:
Abila. English and Spanish. 1814-1943, undated (bulk 1871-1916).
Most photographic items from the collection have been transferred to P-68 Case Art Collection and P-78 Portrait Collection.
