Abstract Note: Robert Daniel Holguin (1953- ) was born and raised in California. He graduated from Baldwin Park High School and received
his Bachelor and Master degrees from UCLA. His main focus of study was television production and directing. As a Mexican American
his collection reflects his interest in films that cover the history and plight of Latinos in the United States. Grant requests,
scripts and clips from some of his films are included. There are also personal writings and law papers that show his struggle
to make it in the film industry.

Biographical / Historical
Robert Daniel Holguin was born January 21, 1953 in Los Angeles, California. He received his high school education in Baldwin
Park High School. In 1976 he completed his undergraduate study of Motion Picture and Television Production at the University
of California, Los Angeles. In 1980 he completed his Master of Fine Arts in UCLA also from the School of Theater Arts. Robert
Holguin won many awards such as the WNET Independent documentary fund for being the Producer and Director of
"Crystal City: The Brown Out" and the UCLA Jim Morrison Award best undergraduate film director for
"Es Mi Abuelita" in 1975. Throughout his life, he has worked in various productions and news networks such as NBC and CBS doing camera work
and directing. He has also taught courses in Mount San Antonio College and Cal Poly Pomona in television studio production
and business report writing.
Series Desciption
Personal and Biographical (1974- 2004)
This series contains school assignments, a federal court case regarding Holguin's discrimination case, notes and diaries of
his life experiences. There are also some papers from his university classes.
Production, Applications, and Contract Documents (1978- 1991)
In this series there are contracts, grant applications, and other documents that Robert had to work with to generate funds
for his productions. Included with his applications are his resumes that convey the work that he did over a number of years.
Plays and Documentary Scripts (1977-1990)
This series contains five different scripts. These are:
Crystal City: The Brown Out,
The Dawning,
The Life Support of South Texas,
Mother's Day and the
Ghetto Man.
The Dawning script and the video titled
Takeover may be different versions of the same project.
Videos (1980s and undated) Included are digital files from the
Takeover. Also in this collection is a documentary about his grandmother titled
Es Mi Abuelita (from which he recieved the UCLA Jim Morrison Award for best undergraduate film director). There is a documentary about Cuban
refuges. Last, there are video segments from KNBC news.
