Scope and Content of Collection
Primarily original photographs, cabinet cards, photograph albums, copy prints, enlargements, two digital scans and negatives
relating to the Los Angeles Fire Department and the history of firefighters in Los Angeles. Also reports, clippings, publications,
letters, receipts, and invoices. Depicted are firemen, fire trucks, firefighting apparatus, fire houses and hose companies,
oftentimes seen in parades, but also in fire battle scenes. Two publications include an informative booklet "Los Angeles
Fire Department, 1892" and an annual report of the Board of Fire Commissioners, 1896. A small number of photographic items
are not related to firefighting. Those images are of Los Angeles locales, Elysian Park, Redondo Beach, Mount Wilson, and
