Historical note
The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Center for Language Education and Research (CLEAR) was a federally-funded
five-year project lasting from 1985 - 1989. The Center was part of the UCLA Center for World Languages. The purpose of CLEAR
was to improve the quality of language education in the United States. It's chief focus was on English proficiency with a
simultaneous commitment to the maintenance and development of heritage language proficiency.
Scope and Content
Record Series 416 contains reports generated by UCLA's Center for Language and Education Research (CLEAR). Files include Advances
in Language Education, Deliverables, educational reports, final project reports, financial status reports, technical reports,
quarterly reports, final reports, and reports in progress regarding years 1-4, work plans, budgets, tasks, and other language,
education, and instruction topics.
