Robert Bradford Wellman earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology at the University of California, Los Angeles in 1953.
Subsequently, he took a position in the Office of the Chancellor at UCLA from 1954-1988, serving for many years as a special
assistant to chancellors Franklin Murphy and Charles E. Young. Wellman also served as Treasurer, Secretary-Treasurer, and
President of the Men's Faculty Club (later known as Collegium Bibendi).
