A graduate with the Class of 1909, Vera excelled at public speaking and was involved in drama and the performing arts as a student. Georgia Hawkins, like her older sister, also graduated from Pomona High School before attending Pomona College. A graduate with the Class of 1912, Georgia served as president of the YWCA from 1911 to 1912 and was a member of the Pomona College Literary Society. Vera and Georgia's younger brother Joseph Hawkins also attended Pomona College for a period. Vera's daughter, JoAnn (Hawkins) Hayward graduated from Pomona College in 1942.
