Collection Description
This small, artificial collection consists of maps on water supply and holdings in the San Francisco Bay Area, chiefly of
the
Spring Valley Water Company. Titles are based on those found on the maps themselves. The maps date to the two first decades of the twentieth century.
J(ohn) H(enry) Dockweiler (1864-1942), of a prominent Los Angeles family, prepared the bulk of the maps in the collection, most likely in his work
as a consulting engineer during his years in the Bay Area.
The 1904 Dockweiler drawing of the holdings of the Spring Valley Water Company in San Francisco was done on a Punnett Brothers
map with the date of 1906. There is no explanation for the discrepancy in dates.
