The Nancy Shaw papers contain material related to her tenure battle at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Shaw (now
Nancy Stoller) was the first female professor to come out at UCSC. She was an associate professor of sociology at the university
when she was denied tenure in 1982. Shaw filed a sex/gender discrimination suit in California Superior Court against the university
after filing complaints with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Civil Rights Division of the Office of Education.
