Abstract: Charles Gerard Rogers Merchant Marine Seaman's documents (HDC 1743. SAFR 24678) consist primarily of official records from his occupation as a fireman, watertender and lifeboatman including the U.S. Maritime Service, the U.S. Coast Guard. The types of documents include crew passes, identification documents, union cards, registrations, certificates, medical records and an Ancient Order of the Deep card dated January 17, 1945. The collection is available for use.

Historical or Biographical Note

Charles Gerard Rogers was born in Corning, California on April 15, 1926. His U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner's document lists his occupations as Fireman, Watertender and Lifeboatman. In 1944, Rogers worked as a Fireman in the United States Maritime Service and on the U.S. Army Transport W.W. ATTERBURY. In 1945, he served on the S.S. CAPE MAY of the United States Lines and with Grace Lines. He also served on several Victory Ships: PLYMOUTH VICTORY, LOMA VICTORY and ADELPHI VICTORY in 1946. He was a member of the National Maritime Union. He died on January 5, 1982.
