These motion picture films were donated by George M. Hidzick and Mrs. Helen E. Cresci to the San Francisco Maritime Museum
(SFMM) on August 8, 1978 according to the SFMM photo-archives accession sheet. They were donated to Golden Gate National Recreation
Area as part of blanket accession GOGA-00789 in 1985 and transferred to San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park as
part of blanket accession SAFR-00001 in 1988.
Historical or Biographical Note
Joseph F. Hidzick was superintendent of the Wood River Cannery for the San Francisco-based Alaska Salmon Company.
The Joseph F. Hidzick motion picture films (P78-400, SAFR 19445) consists of 8 reels of black-and-white, silent 35mm cellulose
nitrate film of San Francisco fishing companies operations in Alaska and San Francisco Bay from circa 1930-1935.
Joseph F. Hidzick produced these films while superintendent of the Wood River Cannery for the San Francisco-based Alaska Salmon
Company. The film Iced Kist Treasures shows salmon fishery and canning at the Wood River Cannery near Dillingham, Alaska.
Joseph Hidzick was The film Codfish shows the San Francisco-based Union Fish Company codfish plant on Belvedere Island in
San Francisco Bay. The films were photographed by Edward H. Kemp around 1930 to 1935.
