This folder contains 33 items: Two black & white Xerox copies of an 1881 ad for real estate in various parts of San Francisco by Maurice Dore & Co. Auctioneers. One black & white Xerox copy of an ad for real estate around 24th Ave. in San Francisco by Maurice Dore & Co. Auctioneers. Four black & white Xerox copies showing available lots on 22nd, 23rd, and 24th Ave. between Point Lobos Ave and California St. An envelope containing contracts and receipts concerning a lot on Dehon St. in San Francisco. A small booklet of the laws of the Young Men’s Catholic Union adopted December 1, 1887. 14 receipts acknowledging the payment of real estate and property taxes by John Campbell from 1893-1903. Vol. 1, No.3 of St. Joseph’s Union newspaper dated September 1887. A page of the Daily Examiner dated Sunday, September 28, 1884. A typed letter signed ‘Lester’ to his mother, mentioning a Judge Haynes and a Judge Mitchell, and well as a Marius.

One black & white Xerox copy of an ad for real estate around 24th Ave. in San Francisco by Maurice Dore & Co. Auctioneers. Four black & white Xerox copies showing available lots on 22nd, 23rd, and 24th Ave. between Point Lobos Ave and California St. An envelope containing the following items: a contract signed by Joseph Campbell on July 13, 1892; a receipt for goods amounting to 42.50 paid for by Joseph Campbell to contractor C.D. Vincent on June 10, 1890; a receipt for the hire of a horse for ten days costing 10.00 paid for by Joseph Campbell to Sullivan & Doyle of Humboldt Boarding, Livery, and Sale Stables on May 24, 1890; a receipt for one walnut mantle costing 50.00 paid for by Joseph Campbell to D. McClernon on July 2, 1892; a deed for the sale of land on Dehon St. by Michael Frank Michael to Joseph Campbell on April 10, 1890, also signed by T.B. Berry and filed on April 19, 1890; a receipt acknowledging the sale of land on Dehon St. to Joseph Campbell and John Hickey by M.F. Michael dated April 8, 1890; a receipt for the services of architect Charles J. Devlin (?) amounting to 50.00 and paid by Joseph Campbell on May 19, 1891; and a receipt for real estate taxes paid for the lot on Dehon St. on November 12, 1891. Biographical / historical:

The papers seem to deal with a Joseph Campbell who purchased real estate in San Francisco during the 1890s. Joseph, according to documents in a related Biographical File, was a teamster and a drayman in San Francscio, documented by a certificate dated, Jan. 26, 1878, from the Draymen's and Teamsters' Union of San Francisco, California, noting Campbell a member in good standing. This same file also includes his Municipal License, dated January 1st, 1891, licensing him to operate a vehicle drawn by more than two animals, his business address being "Pine and Front". John Campbell paid real estate and personal property taxes on his behalf from 1893-1903.
