Abstract: Photocopy of a handwritten letter on Pennsylvania Executive Chamber Stationery from Governor John White Geary to O.R. Sutton.
Forwards a commission for Wm. Huefner as Commissioner of Deeds for Pennsylvannia. Mentions his election as an honorary member
of the Society of California Pioneers and a letter he wrote to Louis Sull about his experiences in Gold Rush San Francisco.
The torn bottom of a page from an original document that contains the signature "Jn. W Geary, First Alcade and Judge of San
Francisco". The bottom of the document, above the signature, reads as follows: "...Judge of the said Court the 30th day of
March 1850."

John White Geary (December 30, 1819 – February 8, 1873) was an American lawyer, politician, Freemason, and a Union general
in the American Civil War. He was the final alcalde and first mayor of San Francisco, a governor of the Kansas Territory,
and the 16th governor of Pennsylvania. He was born Dec 30, 1819, Mt Pleasant, NY and died Feb 8, 1873, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
He arrived San Francisco on April 1849 aboard the Steamer "Oregon". His wife was Margaret Ann Logan Geary, and they had a
son, Edward Geary.
