Abstract: This collection chiefly contains the professional papers of California mining engineer and consultant Harley A. Sill (1885-1964),
reflecting
his visits, reports, and technical data on various types of mines chiefly in California, Arizona,
Nevada, Canada and Mexico, as well as some mines in other parts of
the United States and in South and Central America, primarily in the 1920s to 1950s.

Biographical Note
Harley A. Sill (1885-1964) was a California mining engineer and a consultant who
visited and wrote reports on various types of mines throughout the western
hemisphere particularly in California and the American West. Sill also completed
reports from such diverse locations as New York, Canada, and portions of South
America. He died in Inyo County, California, on December 17, 1964.
Scope and Content
The bulk of the collection contains letters, documents, maps, and reports related to
the professional activities of mining engineer Harley A. Sill (1885-1964). There are
reports on ores and mines and technical data, chiefly from California, Arizona,
Nevada, Canada and Mexico. There are also some reports on mines in other parts of
the United States and in South and Central America. There is also one small box
containing bibliographical references related to mining and metallurgy (Box 15) and
one oversize bound volume detailing a mine in Ontario, Canada.
