Abstract: Song of the Loon (1970), based on the 1966 novel of the same name, was one of the first feature films created by and for gay
men. The collection contains the original positive and negative 35mm and 16mm prints of the film, videotapes, financial records,
promotional materials, a copy of the screenplay, and Polaroid snapshots, including candid photos of the cast on set.

Biography/Administrative History
Song of the Loon (1970), based on the 1966 novel of the same name, was one of the first feature films created by and for gay
men. Richard Amory wrote both the novel and the screenplay, and Shan V. Sayles – owner of several gay male theaters, including
San Francisco's Nob Hill Cinema – produced the film.
Scope and Content of Collection
The collection contains the original positive and negative 35mm and 16mm prints of the film, videotapes, financial records,
promotional materials, a copy of the screenplay, and Polaroid snapshots, including candid photos of the cast on set. Researchers
