Gift from the J. Porter Shaw estate, 1959.
SAFR-00001 is a blanket accession that was transferred from the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) to the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park in September 1988. GGNRA had previously acquired the collection from the San Francisco Maritime Museum when it became a unit of the National Park Service in 1977.
GOGA-00789 was transferred from the J. Porter Shaw Library to the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) in February 1985.

Collection Scope and Content

The J. Porter Shaw photograph collection, circa 1890-1900, (SAFR 24838, P79-058a) is comprised of a photograph album documenting a voyage aboard ULSTERMORE (built 1894; freighter) between Liverpool, England, and Baltimore, Maryland, 1896-1897, as well as miscellaneous loose photographic prints. The collection has been processed to the Item level and is open for use.
Contains 1 photograph album with 54 black-and-white photographic prints photographed and complied by the first officer of ULSTERMORE (built 1894; freighter) during a voyage between Liverpool, England, and Baltimore, Maryland, 1896-1897. Includes photographs of ULSTERMORE and her crew members as well as photographs of other vessels and landscapes spotted during the trip. The collection also includes photographs of a river vessel in England; an unidentified group of children; and a man and a woman walking on a rocky river bed.
