Abstract: The collection shows an overview of the life of Frances Easley. It includes materials from her time at Pepperdine as well
as both before and after her tenure at the school. The types of materials include correspondence, photographs, diplomas, and
Pepperdine periodicals.
Biographical/ Historical Note
Frances Josephine Easley received Bachelors Degree from George Peabody College in June 1926. She then went on to complete
her Masters Degree, also at George Peabody College, in 1930. In 1948 she completed her Doctor of Education at Columbia University,
where she submitted a 118-page project entitled, "Cooperative Evaluation in the Elementary School" for partial fufillment
of her Ed.D degree. Easley taught elementary education in Tennessee, Alabama and Pennsylvania in the years between 1924 and
1938. She was recruited by Batsell Baxter to come to Pepperdine College in 1938, and she was a pioneer faculty member at
Pepperdine for 20 years 1938-1958. During that time she was an associate professor of Education.
When Dr. Easley retired from Pepperdine in 1958, she bought a home in Franklin, Tennessee. Frances Easley was a very active
member of the historic Fourth Avenue Church of Christ in Franklin throughout her retirement years.

The collection contains an assortment of pepers from the life of Frances Easley. It is made up of personal materials such
as diplomas and contracts from her time at Pepperdine, correspondence, photographs, Pepperdine periodicals such as bullitens,
and assorted other items.
