Biography/Administrative History
San Francisco Common Cause is the local chapter of a national, nonpartisan organization dedicated to strengthening public
participation in government. Common Cause works to ensure accountability and responsiveness of public officials and public
institutions. California Common Cause (CCC) appointed its first local governmental chapter board, San Francisco Common Cause,
in response to the election of Willie L. Brown as mayor of San Francisco in 1996. The state organization appointed Charles
Marsteller as coordinator of the local chapter. CCC has allowed the creation of local chapters to be created, tied to an issue
or local leadership, and to assist the organization's Northern California Field Director.
