    Abstract: Lesbians in the Visual Arts (LVA) was a San Francisco-based multicultural advocacy and networking organization founded in 1990 by activist and photographer Linda “Happy” Hyder to increase the visibility of lesbian artists. The collection includes administrative records; correspondence; materials related to the Board of Directors and to Executive Director Hyder; grant proposals and other financial records; brochures, flyers, posters, press releases and other publicity materials; materials related to LVA exhibits, events, workshops and conferences; artists’ biographies and statements; materials related to annual LVA crafts fairs, including buttons and cards produced by members; subject files; news clippings; and a small amount of art and photographs.

    Biography/Administrative History

    Lesbians in the Visual Arts (LVA) was a San Francisco-based multicultural advocacy and networking organization founded in 1990 by activist and photographer Linda “Happy” Hyder to increase the visibility of lesbian artists. LVA promoted and supported lesbian artists worldwide through a slide registry, events, and exhibitions.

    The collection includes administrative records; correspondence; materials related to the Board of Directors and to Executive Director Hyder; grant proposals and other financial records; brochures, flyers, posters, press releases and other publicity materials; materials related to LVA exhibits, events, workshops and conferences; artists’ biographies and statements; materials related to annual LVA crafts fairs, including buttons and cards produced by members; subject files; news clippings; and a small amount of art and photographs.
