Description
Diary of a German-American nurse who served in Europe during World War I. The first entry, dated September 1, 1914, was written on board ship and describes the beginning of her trans-Atlantic journey. The latest entry is dated May of 1916. In addition to the English-language entries (which make up the bulk of the diary) are entries and poems in German, some of which are in a different hand. The diary also includes some sketches, dedicated to "Olga" (presumably the author), as well as a clipping, three photographs, a souvenir handkerchief, a letter, some fabric swatches, and a piece of paper with an official stamp from the German police station in Brussels.
