Biography/Administrative History

The Banning family was headed by Phineas Banning (1830-1885) who is today considered the Father of the Los Angeles Harbor. Upon his arrival to the city in 1851, he built a system of transportation including overland passage roads and shipping access at Wilmington and San Pedro.
