    Biographical Note

    General Alleva was born October 31, 1881. He was promoted to Brigadier General Commissariat in 1939 and then promoted to Inspector of Military Commissariat 2nd Zone on August 9, 1941. The 56th Infantry Division Casale was a regular Infantry Division of the Italian Army during World War II. The Casale Division was sent to Albania in March 1941. Following the Battle of Greece, it was used as an occupation force in Greece, until it was disbanded after the Italian surrender to the Allies in September 1943. Its men hailed from Romagna.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    Photographs and albums belonging to General Armando Alleva, Italian Inspector of Military Commissariat, 2nd Zone. Photos show the commemorations of the 61st Bakers Squad in Albania during the Greco-Italian War of 1940-1941; Alleva's trip to Albania and Montenegro in March to April, 1941; the aftermath of the Greek bombardment of Tirana and Durazzo; the cities of Alessio, Berati, Scutari, Peshkopia, Librashi, Antivari, Virpazai, Cettigne, and Bijeca; and studio portraits of Alleva and his family.
