This box contains poster boards documenting the University of California, Irvine, Shanty Town that was constructed in February 1990 to protest a policy that the university would recognize only legal marriages, not same-sex or domestic partnerships, for married student housing. The poster boards include news reports about the protests, photographs, a cartoon about the protests, chant sheets, events and meetings, letters from Chancellor Peltason and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Horace Mitchell, and a petition addressed to Chancellor Peltason.
