Description
The Dyer Kelley Photograph Collection is comprised of 16 albums, 28 loose photographs and one yearbook. The photographs are primarily class photos. Two images are of staff members. Items document Dyer Kelly class members and staff from 1972-1973 to 1994. The yearbook is dated 1993.
Background
Dyer Kelley Elementary School is located in the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento, California and it is currently part of the San Juan School District. The school has been in existence since 1949 and was named for retired Arcade School District teachers Mary Louise Kelly (1871-1959) and Gladys Dyer (1892-1956). The school's name has changed intermittingly from Dyer-Kelly to Dyer Kelley and back again on a number of occasions, both referring to the same school. The school was previously located at 2236 Edison Ave, Sacramento CA 95821 and, as of Fall 2019, the school was relocated to a new two-story campus, making it the first new elementary school built in the San Juan Unified School District since 1992. This collection was donated by Kathy Stricklin, a local Sacramento historian that works tirelessly to preserve the history of the Arden-Arcade area for generations to come.
