Historical note

The Peace Corps Program at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) began shortly after the creation of the Peace Corps itself in March 1961. On August 30, 1961 UCLA announced that it would become the eighth Peace Corps training center, with training of Peace Corps Program candidates beginning in September 1961. The program began with a ten week training course for volunteers bound for Nigeria. UCLA's Peace Corps training programs were initially administered by UCLA's University Extension, subsequently becoming part of UCLA's International Studies and Overseas Programs (ISOP).
