Series 1 Hunters Point Naval Shipyard Reuse, 1964-1997 (bulk 1973-1977)

Physical Description: 2 cubic feet

Historical Note

When the Hunters Point Shipyard was deactivated in 1974, the Navy's policies on the release of the yard for non-Navy use were uncertain, and the Port did not develop plans. The Port Commission had a study of the yard's potential as a Port facility. The City proposed this development to the Navy on March 15, 1976, with the Port as the city's agent in a master tenant arrangement. However, the Navy awarded the lease to a private company, Triple A Machine Shop.
John Anderson was a consultant to the city as Project Director of the Hunters Point Shipyard Reuse Project, and then with the Port Commission on shipyard development and operation.

Scope and Contents

Contains Anderson's files, as a consultant to the City of San Francisco, on the reuse of the Hunters Point Shipyard which the Navy had deactivated. Includes correspondence, notes and draft documents.
