Description
The Committee on the Status of Women was preceded by the Advisory Committee on Equal Opportunity for Women, appointed by Chancellor Lee in 1971. The committee addressed questions of the status (numbers, promotion levels, tenure) of women faculty at UCSF, of sexual harassment, conducted surveys on childbearing and child care and issued reports on these subjects. The collection is comprised of correspondence, meeting minutes, subject files, and reports.
Background
The Committee on the Status of Women was preceded by the Advisory Committee on Equal Opportunity for Women, appointed by Chancellor Lee (1971), which became the Committee on the Status of Women. Laurel Glass, PhD, was the first chair. It was reorganized by Chancellor Sooy in January 1982, and Marion Nestle, PhD was appointed chair. The committee addressed questions of the status (numbers, promotion levels, tenure) of women faculty at UCSF, of sexual harassment, conducted surveys on childbearing and child care and issued reports on these subjects. The bulk of the records consist of correspondence and meeting minutes.
