Abstract: The Bruce Shapiro papers contain materials from his 1994 theater production of Sophie Treadwell's 1928 play, "Machinal" at the Balch Arena Theater at Tufts University. Treadwell (1885-1970) was born in Stockton and attended UC-Berkeley, where she studied journalism. The collection includes copies of two 1918 letters Treadwell received from her brother John. The letters may include content related to Babe Bean/Jack Bee Garland.
