Description
The Lloyd Wright drawings span 3 linear feet and date from 1946 to 1971. The collection is primarily comprised of architectural drawings and reprographics for exhibition installation design and models for an exhibit at the University of California, Santa Barbara Art Museum. The collection also includes the following drawings: details for the Martha Taggart residence, a topographic map of the Frank S. Wyle residential development, and street level plans and elevations of the Urban Recreation Center in Thanksgiving Square. One piece of printed ephemera from The American Weekly (1961), a fold out of Frank Lloyd Wright’s Last Dream, is included.
Background
Lloyd Wright was born on March 31, 1890, the eldest son of Frank Lloyd Wright, in the state of Illinois. Wright studied agronomy and engineering at the University of Wisconsin. He worked as a draftsman in the office of his father; worked with the firm Olmsted and Olmsted on the San Francisco Exposition; and later worked with Irving J. Gill and several landscape architects in California. In 1925, he established his own practice as an architect and landscape architect in Los Angeles. He was active until his death in 1978.
