Description
The artificial collection consists of ephemera pertaining to the state of California and each of its counties, excluding the City and County of San Francisco, collected by the San Francisco History Center, San Francisco Public Library. Dating from 1850 to present day, the collection includes ephemera created by or related to businesses; government agencies; infrastructure and transit systems; historic buildings, landmarks, and museums; schools, colleges, and universities; civic associations and activist groups; clubs and societies, labor unions; auditoriums and theaters; hotels and resorts; festivals and fairs; sporting events; hospitals, sanatoriums, prisons, and orphanages; elections, ballot measures, and political parties; geographic features; churches; and other subjects.
Background
The collection was collected and assembled by the San Francisco History Center, San Francisco Public Library. The creation of the collection and the selection process focused on significant 19th and 20th century California subjects in California history. The collection includes multiple accessions and donations acquired.

Restrictions
All requests for permission to publish or quote from manuscripts must be submitted in writing to the City Archivist. Permission for publication is given on behalf of the San Francisco Public Library as the owner of the physical items.
Availability
The collection is available for use during San Francisco History Center hours. Collections that are stored offsite should be requested 48 hours in advance.
