- Scope and content:
-
The collection contains two reels of 16 mm film relating to Los Rancheros Visitadores, or the "Visiting Ranchers."
- Biographical / historical:
-
"Los Rancheros Visitadores was the brainchild of a small group of prominent Santa Barbarans who were horse lovers and wished to commemorate the important role horsemanship and ranching had played in the history of the South Coast."
Founded in 1929 by Ed Borein and Elmer Awl, the group held its first trek in May 1930 through Southern California's Santa Ynez Valley. The group continues as an invitation-only riding group, with "almost 700 members today and is international in scope. Selected members sit on the board of Los Adobes de los Rancheros, a separate charitable organization."
