Series 1 Meeting Files 1994-1996

Physical Description: 36 file folders and 31 videocassettes

Scope and Content Note

This series documents the meetings of the Commission from May 4, 1994 through June 25, 1996; video recordings for many of these meetings are available. The types of records contained in the Meeting Files include transcripts, testimony, news clippings, roll calls, timelines, work plans, draft report language, resource bibliographies, presentations, background materials, correspondence, reports, agendas, minutes, notes, and memoranda. Meeting topics encompass the entire spectrum of issues addressed by the Commission's mandate such as K-12 and higher education, local government powers, and the state budget process. The Meeting Files also include some records pertaining to the workshops held by the Commission; sometimes these workshops were held in conjunction with a regular Commission meeting. Meetings also addressed administrative matters such as staffing, travel, and scheduling.

Series 2 Hearing Files 1995

Physical Description: 5 file folders and 14 videocassettes

Arrangement

The first file in the series contains a publication containing all materials submitted for all four hearings. Subsequent files are arranged chronologically by date of hearing and contain material regarding each individual hearing.

Scope and Content Note

The Hearing Files document the proceedings of the four public hearings held by the Commission throughout the State. The first file in the series contains a publication containing all materials submitted "for the record" for all four hearings. Subsequent files are arranged chronologically by hearing date and contain material pertaining to each individual hearing. Types of documents include testimony, sign-in sheets, notes, memoranda, correspondence, travel arrangements, and announcements. Hearings do not appear to have been subject-specific; input regarding any and all of the Commission's mandated subject areas were welcome. A list of hearing dates, locations, and associated video tapes is below.

Series 3 Community Forum Files 1995

Physical Description: 26 file folders

Arrangement

The first file in the series is titled "General (1995)." All subsequent files are arranged chronologically by date of forum event.

Scope and Content Note

The Community Forum Files pertain to the thirty-nine public forums held by the League of Women Voters throughout the state in collaboration with the Commission. The first file in the series is titled "General" and contains overview information regarding the entire forum series, such as the purpose and structure of the forums. The remaining files are arranged chronologically by date of forum event. Files may include announcements, testimony, flyers, summaries, sign-in sheets, mailing lists, and a brief description of the event.

Series 4 Correspondence 1994-1996

Arrangement

Arranged alphabetically by subject heading.

Scope and Content Note

This series contains correspondence that are both incoming and outgoing as well as both internal (within the Commission) and external. Types of documents include reports, meeting notices, memoranda, news clippings, municipal resolutions, articles, events calendars, talking points, testimony, travel reimbursement, and invitations to participate at meetings. Notable correspondents to the Commission include Association of Bay Area Governments, Fresno County Board of Education, University of San Francisco, California Assessor's Association, California Special Districts Association, and Superior Court Judge William Ferroggiaro, Jr.

Series 5 Newsletters 1995-1996

Arrangement

Arranged chronologically by date of publication.

Scope and Content Note

The newsletter of the Commission was titled CCRC News; these records contain fourteen newsletters published between February 1995 and May 1996. Each newsletter may contain information such as a message from Chairman Hauck, meeting announcements, progress reports and updates about specific issues the Commission was deliberating on, summaries of Commission positions on these issues, and invitations for comment.

Series 6 Press Files 1994-1996

Scope and Content Note

The Press Files contain articles and news clippings about the work of the Commission as well as press releases from the Commission regarding appointment of Commissioners, progress and decisions, meeting announcements, and their final recommendations.
