    Biographical / Historical

    Private Ezra G. Blazo, United States Army (1833 - 1863) of the 20th Regiment of Illinois Volunteers (Company A) was born in Maine to parents Ebenezer and Elizabeth Gibbs Blazo. He had a younger brother, Amos. He married Emily W. Nickerson in Lowell, Massachusetts in November of 1854. The couple had one child the following year, a son named William W. Blazo. Ezra enlisted in 1861 under the alias Charles G. Blazo, and died in a hospital in St. Louis in September 1863.

    Content Description

    This collection contains 25 letters from Pvt. Ezra G. Blazo, USA to his father and younger brother, Ebenzer and Amos, while serving with the Union Army during the Civil War. There are also three letters sent to Ebenezer from a hospital nurse in St. Louis regarding Pvt. Blazo's illness and subsequent death. The collection contains one photograph and 45 cartes de visite of unidentified (with one exception) individuals. The majority of these images were produced by a studio in Belfast, Maine. There are 28 legal documents; mostly deeds in which Ebenezer Blazo was an interested party.
