Smith O’Brien was born circa 1863. He worked as a draftsman for architect Clinton Day whose practice was based in San Francisco,
California. O’Brien later became a partner with architect Frederick Herman Meyer, a partnership which lasted from 1902 to
1908. O’Brien began to practice independently circa 1915 in the San Francisco bay area.
The Smith O’Brien drawing of the Youth Directory building spans 3 linear feet and dates from 1908. The collection is composed
of one presentation drawing in the form of a reprographic copy. Drawing is dated 1908 and depicts the front elevation of the
building which is located, as noted on the drawing, on the south west corner of 19th Street and Church Street in San Francisco,
California.
