Scope and Contents

This collection contains eleven correspondence from three different soldiers to Lenore Schwartz during the Second World War. Lenore worked for the USO/Jewish Welfare Board and attended social events with soldiers on their way to the Philippines and other destinations, keeping in touch with several of them.
Of particular interest are three copies of a poem written by Sgt. Smith Dawless about his experiences during the war.
The authors of these letters are Phil Stern, Lenny Greenbaum, and an unknown individual referred to as "Fishman". The majority of these letters were written by Phil Stern.
