Scope and Content of Collection

Album 137 was an album of Southern Pacific photographs of the flood of 1940. Includes aerial photographs of flood waters in Gridley, Marysville, Princeton, Colusa, the Yolo Bypass, and Sacramento. The remainder of album 137 are ground level photographs of the flood damage starting in Sacramento and following the line north to Tehama and Gerber. Shows Knights Landing, Los Molinos, Tehama, and Willows. Album 139 was the office copy in the Office of Engineer, Maintenance of Way and Structures. It consists of professional 8 x 10 black and white photos of scenes along the right of way of the Southern Pacific from San Jose, California to Lick, California. The first section of the album has photos taken of downtown San Jose. There are no captions on the photos in this section, however; there are photo numbers: 1989-1 through 1989-16 and 1989-19 through 1989-25 inclusive. The next and largest section of the album are photograph numbers 1518-1 through 1518-73 inclusive and 1518-80 through 1518-116 inclusive. There are captions above each photo in this section with the location and date. The end of the album has photographs of the San Jose line change, Oct. 22, 1929.
