Description
Collection of materials related to composer Edward Cox Davis (1818-1911) and his 1865 composition "Lincoln's Funeral March."
Background
Composer Edward Cox Davis (1818-1911) was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and was married to Jane Clark Skinner and Diana S. Hitchcock; he had three children. Davis died in Des Moines, Iowa. His composition "Lincoln's Funeral March" was performed by the Old Silver Band of St. Louis at the 1865 funeral services of President Abraham Lincoln in Springfield, Illinois.
