Correspondence 1926-2004; bulk 1926-1947

Physical Description: 10 Folders

Scope and Contents

The bulk of the correspondence (1926-1931) chronicles the inception of the Palos Verdes Library District (PVLD) and the land acquisition, construction, furnishing and grand opening of the library at Malaga Cove through letters and attached documents written and received by Charles H. Cheney, Romayne Martin, Myron Hunt, the Library Board of Trustees, the Olmsted Brothers, Jay Lawyer, the County of Los Angeles Free Library and Frank Vanderlip. Correspondence of the 1930s-1950s includes letters sent and received by the Board of Trustees and by librarian, Agnes MacMillan, regarding the contract with the Los Angeles County Free Library to supply materials to PVLD, purchases for the burgeoning library's collection, the Works Progress Administration, the purchase of a Florentine Triptych from the Vanderlips, tax lawsuits, the Harbor Hills Housing Project, the Chelsie Final Kraemer Memorial Fund, and the sudden death of Agnes MacMillan in 1956.
