Abstract: Collection consists of photographs of Southern Pacific and Union Pacific railroad stations and depots collected by Lee Gustafson.
Physical Location: The Lee Gustafson Collection is stored in the Big 4 Building, and patrons may gain access to it during standard library hours
upon request.

Arrangement
Southern Pacific stations and buildings are arranged by the railroad's traditional operating divisions. Union Pacific stations
and buildings are arranged by state. Pacific Electric stations and buildings are arranged in alphabetical order.
Other material and railroads in the collection include: Pacific Electric right of way buildings, yards, locomotives and rollign
stock; Metrolink (SCRRA) stations; SP Maintenance of Way equipment, trains and locomotives; SP narrow gauge equipment and
facilities; Midwest and west coast short line and industrial locomotives and stations; Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority
(LAMTA) rolling stock. Also included are Pacific Electric station research notes, historical materials and timetable copies.
Also, one storage box of Lee Gustafson Research Notes (5x7 index cards) containing station historical and status notes on
SP subsidiaries as compiled by Mr. Gustafson. Railroads covered are Northwestern Pacific, Pacific Electric, San Diego & Arizona
Eastern, Tijuana & Tecate.

The Lee Gustafson Collection was donated in 2017 to the California State Railroad Museum Library and Archives by his daughter,
Ashley Gustafson.
Biographical Information
Lee Gustafson (born 1944) was a life-long photographer and collector of railroad depots and buildings, primarily Southern
Pacific, Santa Fe, Union Pacific, Pacific Electric, and west coast short lines. He co-authored two books on the history of
Santa Fe depots in California (with Phil Serpico) and amassed thousands of research notes on SP, UP and PE stations.
Gustafson was a career employee of the U.S. Postal Service, retiring as postmaster of the Malibu, California office. He resided
in the Los Angeles area until his passing in 2017.
