David Jones, November 1, 1895 - October 28, 1974, was an English painter and poet.
Michael Joseph Alexander is a British translator, poet, academic and broadcaster.

director of Radio Drama & Features at ABC, the man who commissioned the programme. 4 letters from British Council on recorded
interview with David Jones in 1964.

program lasted 2 hrs 30 minutes. Large file of many letters, some lengthy, from David Jone's friend René Hague, on David Jones,
on Father Desmond Chute (died 1962), Eric Gill, Teilhard de Chardin. A draft of Hague's contribution and the 21 page text
of his commentary on David Jones. Hague died in 1981.

Scope and Contents
Scripsi, a literary magazine from Melbourne University, printed the full text of the two and a half hour Australian Broadcast
Commission David Jones radio program. Fifty or so pages of correspondence 1983-1984 with the editors, Peter Craven and Michael
Hayward, including texts mostly typed by Michael J. Alexander and corrected by hand, but some substantial handwritten letters.
The contributors were Saunders Lewis, Rene Hague, William Cookson and Dr Ieuan Williams, a philosopher at Swansea. Lord Clark
'said to have been converted by experience of preparing Civilisation' (Michael J. Alexander letter of 7 December 1983). The
sequence of letters begins with regrets that Michael J. Alexander was not coming to the chair of English at Melbourne. Also
includes a letter from Chris Wallace-Crabbe, and a review by Professor Russell.
