Gift of Robert Cushman, 2002
Robert Cushman was an American photograph curator. He was on the staff of the Margaret Herrick Library from 1972 until his death in 2009. He was an avid collector of silent film sheet music, most of which he obtained from East coast sheet music dealers.
The Robert Cushman collection of sheet music spans the years 1909-1937 (bulk 1910s-1920s) and encompass 8 linear feet. There are 475 pieces of music related to motion pictures and film personalities. The music is often from, related to, or inspired by a film, and many covers contain images of film stars, often tied to a film company or specific production. The collection is arranged alphabetically by song title. The earliest piece is "Let's Go in to a Picture Show," copyright 1909.
