Scope and Content of Collection

*There are currently three record groups on site at Mills College. Materials for eventual transfer are housed in Oakland, Livermore, and Washington, D.C. As new materials are received and processed this guide will be updated. **This collection does not include State Legislature records. For these records, please contact the African American Museum and Library at Oakland. The archive consists of three record groups: Record Group 1. Ron Dellums/Barbara Lee Transitional Files 32 boxes of office files from the transitional period of Ron Dellums’ last days and the beginning of Barbara Lee’s first as Congressional Representative in the U.S. House of Representatives. Topics in this record group include: “Health Issues”; “Base Closure”; “Ron Dellums Files”; “Issues and Internships”; and “Office Reference Material”. Record Group 2. Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) Responses 16 boxes of letters, emails, and other communications in support of and against Barbara Lee’s vote against the Authorization for Use of Military Force (signed by President George W. Bush on September 18, 2001) that was a response to the September 11, 2001 attacks. Barbara Lee was the only member of Congress to vote against the bill. The authorization granted the President the authority to use all "necessary and appropriate force" against those whom he determined "planned, authorized, committed or aided" the September 11th attacks, or who harbored said persons or groups. Record Group 3. Office Files 17 boxes of office files arranged in five different series.
