    Biographical / Historical Notes

    The Associates for Contemporary San Diego was incorporated in 1966 by twelve women who sought to publicize and promote the City and County of San Diego as a scientific and cultural center, as well as to promote and/or sponsor scientific and cultural events. They supported large cultural events such as San Diego's bicentennial celebration and collaborated with environmental and educational groups including the San Diego Zoological Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
    The charter members of the association were: Mrs. William R. Boehm, Mrs. Clayton H. Brace, Mrs. Edward Creutz, Mrs. John S. Galbraith, Mrs. Marian Longstreth, Mrs. Lucien B. McDonald, Mrs. Clinton D. McKinnon, Mrs. Neil Morgan, Mrs. William A. Nierenberg, Mrs. Richard Phillips, Mrs. Robert B. Satterford, and Mrs. Bruce R. Hazard.

    Scope and Content

    This collection contains administrative records and documentation of projects and events hosted by the Associates for Contemporary San Diego in the mid-1900s. Administrative records include founding documents, minutes, correspondence, and membership lists. Projects and events include lecture series, fundraisers, facility openings, anniversary dinners, and other events in support of intellectual and cultural causes.

    Series I: Administration;
    Series II: Projects and Events.
