The collection is available for use during San Francisco History Center hours. Collections that are stored offsite should be requested 48 hours in advance.

Publication Rights

All requests for permission to publish or quote from manuscripts must be submitted in writing to the City Archivist. Permission for publication is given on behalf of the San Francisco Public Library as the owner of the physical items.

Biography History

Ajuan Mance is a Professor of English and Ethnic Studies at Mills College in Oakland, California, and a lifelong artist and writer. She is the author of several publications including: Inventing Black Women: African American Women's Poetry and Self-Representation, 1877-2000 and Before Harlem: An Anthology of African American Literature from the Long Nineteenth Century. An artist, illustrator, and comic creator, Ajuan has participated in solo and group exhibitions as well as comic and zine fests.

Scope and Content

Contains 11 pairs of silkscreen posters depicting San Francisco COVID Command workers created by Ajuan Mance during her time as an Artist-in-Residence with the San Francisco COVID Command Center. Also included are 2 copies of her Artist Statement regarding the project.

Arrangement

Collection is arranged with each poster separated by acid-free paper.
