Background
Harriet Marie Moore was born on January 1, 1814 in Veteran, New York and died at her home near Shell Rock, Iowa on August 24, 1913. At 12 years old she moved with her sister, Mrs. R. II. Avilbur, to LaSalle, Illinois where she grew to young womanhood. She married Charles Herrington on January 18, 1860 in Boone County, Illinois where they lived until 1883. They then moved to their farm three miles north of Shell Rock. They had five children; Joseph Edward of Long Beach, Cal., and Charlie J., Fred Webster, Sabnn D., and L. Maud of Shell Rock.
