Abstract: The collection contains research materials relative to Sacramento's involvement in World Wars I and II. It was used to write
two books, both authored by the Special Collections of the Sacramento Public Library.
Biographical / Historical
Amanda G. DeWilde was born in Eureka, California, and grew up in Klamath Falls, Oregon. She went on to earn a bachelor's degree
in History from Southern Oregon University and a master's degree in Information Science from the University of Texas at Austin,
with an emphasis on archival studies. After a brief stint with the Montana Historical Society, she became head archivist for
the Special Collections of the Sacramento Public Library, known more commonly as the Sacramento Room. She started in this
capacity in 2010 and left the position in May 2019. Over her tenure, DeWilde was responsible for expanding the Sacramento
Room's manuscripts collection, digitization initiative, programming footprint, records management policy and outreach plan.
She also participated in the writing and publishing of three books on Sacramento: World War I and the Sacramento Valley (2016,
History Press), World War II Sacramento (2018, History Press) and Sacramento (Arcadia, 2019).
Scope and Contents
With coverage from 1914 to 1959, the collection is composed of correspondence, manuscripts, newspaper clippings (organized
by topic), scholarly articles, presentation notes and publisher/writer contract information. Box One contains Series One and
content on World War I; Box Two contains Series Two and content on World War II. The researcher should note that the collection
has been maintained in the creator's original order. Series and corresponding folders are arranged as follows:
