Description
This collection consists of materials related to the Wilcox Fruit Company. Ms. Chase's family owned the company and its pear orchards from the 1870s to the late 1960s. The company sold its orchard land to Intel for its headquarters facility near Highway 101 in Santa Clara. The collection includes photos, legal papers, family memorabilia, letters, materials related to the State Fair, including booklets from 1927, 1928 and 1929, as well as photos of the company booth and display cards, and other documentation.
Background
I. A. Wilcox was the founder of the Wilcox Fruit Company. He bought property in Santa Clara and left his wife and children in the East Bay. His son, Dr. Walter I. Wilcox, took over management of the Wilcox Fruit Company in the early 1900's. Another son, Harry Wilcox, had a printing company in San Jose; he died in 1924.
