Gwen Bristow was born September 16, 1903 in Marion, South Carolina; BA, Judson college,
1924; attended Columbia University School of Journalism, 1924-25; attended Anderson College;
reporter, New Orleans Times-Picayune, 1925-34; wrote mysteries; her best known work was The
plantation trilogy, which was composed of
Deep summer (1937),
The
handsome road
(1938), and
This side of glory (1940); also author of
Tomorrow is forever (1943) and
Jubilee trail (1950); died in
New Orleans, Aug. 16, 1980.
