    Scope and Content of Collection

This collection contains materials related to the work of journalist, author and activist Jim Provenzano. Provenzano wrote for Outweek in New York and was the editor of Hunt, the publication’s entertainment weekly. The collection contains files from Outweek Publishing Corporation, and page proofs, photos, layouts and issues of Hunt. There are also articles Provanzano wrote for a number of other publications, including NYQ and the Advocate. He was a member of both ACT UP and Queer Nation, and the collection has small amount of material related to ACT-UP New York, as well as a few publications related to AIDS and LGBT life. Provenzano moved to San Francisco in 1992. He was an editor at the Bay Area Reporter and wrote a column about LGBT athletics called “Sports Complex.” The collection includes materials from “Sporting Life,” the world’s first exhibit on LGBT athletics, which Provenzano curated at the GLBT Historical Society in 2005. DVDs and CDs include footage played at, and a panel about the exhibit; and footage and photos of an ACT UP demonstration, the Gay Games, local sports teams and clubs, including the Barbary Coast Boating Club, Cheer SF, FrontRunners and the San Francisco Tsunamis water polo team. There is also a “yellow brick” from the Stonewall 25th Anniversary celebration.
