Description
Joye Harold Severaid specialized in mammology and the natural history of the Sacramento area. An active conservationist, Dr. Severaid served on the Board of Directors of the Sacramento Zoological Society and co-edited the society’s bulletin. He also served as President and Chair of the Save the American River Association and was the CSUS representative to the 58th National Audubon Society Convention in 1962. The collection consists of reports, correspondence, diaries, maps, photographs and artifacts.

He received a Bachelors of Science degree in Zoology from Iowa State College in 1938, a Masters of Science degree in Wildlife Conservation from the University of Maine in 1941 and a Masters of Art degree in Vertebrate Zoology from the University of California, Berkeley in 1949. He obtained a Doctoral Degree in Vertebrate Zoology from the University of California, Berkeley in 1955.
